GE, Jersey Boys, Terroirs, the Maple Leaf and a new book!

November 8th, 2009 · No Comments

This week started with a nice surprise when one of my old co-workers from GE emailed me to say that she was going to be in London with a few other folks we used to work with.  We decided to meet up on Wednesday evening for a few beers at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese and [...]

I’ll be interested to see how these work out…

March 29th, 2009 · 2 Comments

I usually spend a little time on CNN.com every day and over the past few weeks or months, they have been running some real-life accounts of how people are dealing with the recession and unemployment.  Some of them are very good and tell stories about people that are now spending more time with their families, [...]

Dear AIG…

March 28th, 2009 · No Comments

I’ve been following the AIG bonus debacle from abroad and I keep thinking to myself, what would I do if I were one of the employees that was paid the bonus and was now being asked to return it?  I think this letter by Jake DeSantis captures my view on the issue perfectly…
From The New [...]

“The actions taken by my Administration in [...]

Automaker Bailout

December 20th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Damn…can’t we find better ways to spend taxpayer dollars? While I can follow and maybe even support the argument that we need to bailout banks to prevent a cascading effect that shuts down the entire economy (although I could also argue that the bailout didn’t achieve the desired impact), bailing out automakers seems ridiculous. Fast Food Nation for America’s Finances

October 26th, 2008 · 1 Comment

This is an interesting documentary on the current credit card and debt situation in America.  If you saw “Fast Food Nation”, this is a similar sort of view on consumer debt in the US.  I’ve only seen the first half an hour or so, but it looks very informative and educational.
View it here: In Debt We [...]

Keeping my day job…

October 13th, 2008 · No Comments

It’s been a tough couple of days on the stock market and I’m glad I still have a day job so that I don’t have to live off of my battered retirement account.  I thought the 100 and 200 point daily swings were a wild ride, but it now seems like we need 500, 700 [...]

Too funny not to post…

October 8th, 2008 · 1 Comment

A fun email circulating trading desks, worthwhile as an informal measure of sentiment:

CEO –Chief Embezzlement Officer.
CFO– Corporate Fraud Officer.
BULL MARKET — A random market movement causing an investor to mistake himself for a financial genius.
BEAR MARKET — A 6 to 18 month period when the kids get no allowance, the wife gets no jewelry, and [...]
