Sunday morning

January 25th, 2009 · 4 Comments

As a kid, I have many distinct memories of Sunday morning.  My dad worked hard and was an early riser.  On Sundays he would usually get up before anyone else, go out to his easy chair and sit down with the newspaper and a cup of tea.  He would turn on his music just loud enough so that he could hear it, but quiet enough not to wake anyone else.  His music was old school country and over the years he made the change from vinyl to cassette tapes to compact discs.  Maybe today he’s listening to the same songs from his ipod.  Artists such as Mel McDaniels, Kris Christopherson, Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson were some of the ones I remember.  I still listen to some of them today when I’m feeling nostalgic or have the opportunity to relax on a Sunday morning of my own.  Today is Sunday and I am sitting alone listening to the rain fall outside my window.  The news I read comes over the internet and my music is via iTunes but I can’t help but think that the peaceful, quiet and relaxing things that I am enjoying right now are the same things my dad has been experiencing for all these years.

It’s ironic, isn’t it? No matter how vehemently we insist that we will not be like our parents, eventually we become them. :>

Turning into your parents isn’t a bad thing!

Enjoyed this! Pretty amazing how many things in this world are cyclic. Today, Sunday finds me up early, beer boiling shrimp for the super bowl party and listening to Jimmy Buffet
