Back in London

October 6th, 2009 · No Comments

It’s been a long time since I’ve put anything up as I’ve been out of town since early September.  I’ll run through the highlights this morning, but if I get time I’ll come back and fill in a bit more detail.

I think my last post was part way through Jenny and Angie’s visit to London.  We all had a fabulous time and were able to explore a ton of the attractions that London has to offer.  It was really nice to have them here and to take the time to just get out and explore.  Our new flat worked out great and there was plenty of room for everyone.  A significant upgrade in accommodations for our visitors!

On the day they left, I had to go into the office for a few hours for an interview (promotion process) and then rush off to the airport to fly to New York for what I thought was going to be two weeks of work.  Long story short, I ended up staying for a month and landed back in London the day before I was supposed to fly to Turkey for a week’s holiday with the London Corinthian Sailing Club.

I got everything done that I needed to, packed a bag and rushed off to the airport with Melisse to catch our Easy Jet flight to Dalaman.  We hadn’t actually met any of the people that we were going on Holiday with, but were able to track them down in the airport based on a few things….number of bottles purchased at the duty free (2 bottles of gin - definitely with us), footwear (flip flops or boat shoes) and other signs of nautical apparel (we actually thought the guy with the anchor tattoo was with us…he wasn’t).   Sailing in Turkey was incredible.  We spent about a week on the boat and covered about 200 nautical miles.  The people from the club were friendly as were the locals.   We ate great food, drank plenty of the local beer, saw ruins, swam in the Med and hopefully got enough sun to keep us going through the winter.  You can click here to see a few of the pictures from the trip.

We got back from Turkey late Saturday evening / early Sunday AM and got to sleep for a few hours before heading back out to the airport to pick up Jim who is here visiting for the next week.  The last few days have been very low key, but now that I’m caught up on sleep, I’m guessing we’ll get out and about a bit more.

BTW - I found out during the trip that my promotion was approved, so all in all it’s been a very exciting couple of weeks!
