We are very lucky to have brother Hugh in town this weekend. He was in the Netherlands for business and was able to extend his trip so that he could spend a few days with us in London. For clarification, Hugh is not really my brother, but rather the brother of my sister-in-law. Since I consider him family, he goes by “brother”. In any case, he arrived yesterday around noon and met up with a buddy of his from Notre Dame. They had a beer before making their way across town to meet up with us at pub called the Garrison that turned out to be great. It was a place that Melisse and I had walked by several times when we were living in our temporary housing, but for some reason we always ended up at the pub across the street. After some lunch and a few beers, we grabbed a cab over to the Blackfriars pub which is right across the street from my office and is a bit of a historical landmark. While we were there someone walked in with a “Gonzaga Bulldogs” sweatshirt on. Gonzaga is a small college in Spokane, WA where I grew up. We chatted with them for a few for a few minutes, but had to take off to catch kick-off of the ND – Stanford game at the Sports Café. The set up wasn’t ideal since we couldn’t get them to put the sound on in the area we were in, but it was fun to watch some college football. Melisse and I left a little early as ND seemed well in control and we were hoping to grab some food since they had closed the kitchen at the Sports Café. Based on a recommendation from my actual brother, Jim, we thought we’d swing by the Kebab shop up the road from our house. Unfortunately, it was closed by the time we got there. Maybe next time.
