I usually spend a little time on CNN.com every day and over the past few weeks or months, they have been running some real-life accounts of how people are dealing with the recession and unemployment. Some of them are very good and tell stories about people that are now spending more time with their families, re-tooling their skill set for new job prospects, or starting new businesses during this time of adversity. In many cases I get a good feeling about the people involved and have hope that they will emerge stronger.
In a couple of other cases, I can’t help but say…really? You thought this was a good idea? Were you drinking at the time?
Exhibit A:
From Beverly Hills to shoveling manure on a farm
This couple decided to trade in their LA/Beverly Hills lifestyle to go live in an Airstream on the family farm. He seems pretty keen on the idea since it is his parents and he’s out of work. I predict that she may have already called her old boss to see if her job was still available.
Exhibit B:
Young couple moves in with her ex-husband
Expect to see this one on Jerry Springer in the near future….
I actually hope everyone comes out of this situation stronger than before, but it’s a good reminder that there are a few things in life that we probably shouldn’t compromise. Living with your ex is definitely one of them…

We’re embarking on an experiment to see if a couple can live on retirement income and one salary. No manure shoveling nor exes are involved at present.

Good week to be out of London - seems a bit of chaos has broken out over the recession. I don’t know if “abolishing money” will address the problem better than moving in with an ex, though.
