Boulder to London

I just saw that Obama has chosen his running mate as Joe Biden.  I personally believe that this is an excellent choice and look forward to watching the campaign develop.  I like the balance of the two individuals and hope that they run a successful campaign.  As an expat, it’s been fun to follow things from abroad.  People are very interested and it’s definitely good to see the impact of our actions and foreign policy from the other side of the pond.  The embarrassing part is that most of the people I come across are more educated than I am on the current candidates, our past elections and our actions around the world. 

In the spirit of political awareness, I’ve picked up a book called “The Looming Tower, Al-Queda’s Road to 9-11” written by Lawrence Wright.  It gives a historical perspective on the events and actions that led up to 9-11 and I must say that I was quite unaware.  It’s a great read for anyone that is looking to understand what happened and why.  I’m about half way through it and have already learned quite a bit.  For my Colorado friends out there, one of the early chapters is set in Greely, CO at what is now the University of N. Colorado.  Surprising that some of the events that shaped the views of one of the key individuals happened so close to home!
