Friday was ‘Red Nose Day’ in the UK. If you haven’t heard of Red Nose Day (I hadn’t until I got the e-mail on Thursday), it is a day that was established by a charitable organisation, Comic Relief, to raise money for causes around the world. From my quick research on wikipedia, it appears that it all got started in 1985 by a single comedian who wanted to raise money in response to famine in Ethiopia. Today the event is supported by the BBC and Sainsbury’s as well as celebrities and corporations of all type. Since the 1980’s over £600 million has been raised under the rule that every pound donated goes directly to charity. It appears to be a pretty cool cause and another example of the quirky Brits having some fun and doing something good and impactful at the same time. Visit the official website here.
