A friend of mine who was reading the blog asked me about the link to mint.com on the sidebar. She asked if I am a user and if I would mind doing a quick write up on it. I first learned about Mint in a Fast Company article highlighting the founder and the product. The article positioned the product as Quicken for Gen X/Y. The basic idea it that Mint links to your bank, credit card, brokerage and loan accounts to categorize your spending, benchmark you against national averages and recommend money saving products. Overall I think the product is great and have recommended it to my friends and family. The drawbacks are that it won’t let you do custom categories and it doesn’t like to all financial institutions. I’ll have to see how it works with foreign accounts, but I suspect that it will have some difficulty. Feel free to comment and let me know what you think of the product!
