So it appears that we are the “quite unlucky” according to Johnny. At this point we have made unsuccessful bids on four places. Needless to say we are a bit discouraged. I’d go into more detail, but that may cause me to drink excessively on a Tuesday night which is something I tried to give up after my time at WSU. Long story short, our temporary housing expires on Thursday, we are not sure if we can renew it and we don’t have a place to move into.
I also have two days of work under my belt. On the first day I had a little mishap caused by my lack of focus on details. The result was me showing up for work about 30 miles out of town at one of our offices where I thought I was supposed to report for orientation. Unfortunately, orientation isn’t until the 4th of August. Since the receptionist was new and most people don’t show up to work until 9:30 or so, it took some time to get things straightened out. I made it back into town to my actual office around 11 where I was met by my team that had been expecting me a few hours earlier. They laughed at me and informed me that I wasn’t actually the first one to show up at the wrong office on the first day. I completed most of the mandatory training, got my computer and blackberry set up and then called it a day. The people were super nice and it looks like it is going to be a great place to work.
Day two was filled with more training, but I actually got to review some of the client presentations and current projects. My GE background is going to allow me hit the ground running…I just need to figure out the consulting bit. Overall, I am excited to actually get out on a project and help a customer. I never had a customer facing role at GE am looking forward to the opportunity.
London continues to be intriguing. I’m surprised at how difficult it is to do things that are easy in the states, and then I’m simultaneously impressed by other things that work so much easier. I’ll have to do a full blog on the differences, likes and dislikes. A quick preview…likes include the tube, my work schedule, pubs, access to Europe, etc. Dislikes…the letting scheme, the weather and not being able to do anything without an address.
